healthiest apple pie

this is the lightest, easiest “healthiest” apple pie you will ever have and guiltless-ly become addicted to. 

it’s super low-fat and low-sugar – plus it only has 5 ingredients in its base!

the base of the pie has no refined sugars – its sweetened naturally with honey and apples. the creaminess comes from non-fat greek yogurt

if you want to be less “healthy” i offer substitutions and optional additions below 🙂 with or without them, this apple pie is heavenly as it is healthy. easi

 

ingredients 材料

for the pie base:

  • 4 medium apples (any kind, i recommend: gala, pink lady, fuji, honey crisp)
  • *1 cup greek yogurt (any kind. if you don’t care about fat, use sour cream)
  • *3 tbsp honey
  • *2.5 tbsp all purpose flour
  • *1 egg
  • 1 frozen 9-inch pie shell 

for the crumble (optional)

  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp butter, cut into very small pieces
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup walnut pieces

directions 作り方

  1. in a large bowl, whisk all base ingredients(*) together
  2. peel apples and cut into quarter, then cut into 1/4 inch (~0.5 cm) thick slices and fold into the mixture from step 1
  3. pour mixture into frozen 9-inch pie shell 
  4. bake at 375°F for 45 minutes
  5. in a small bowl, combine all crumble ingredients
  6. top pie with crumble and bake at 375°F for another 15 minutes!
  7. for best results, cool pie and rest in the refrigerator overnight (or at least 3-4 hours)
