strawberry sando

IMG_8615

fruit sando’s have been hitting japanese convenience store shelves for years, but its now just booming internationally

this strawberry sando is the light, snack version of your favorite strawberry-shortcake.

making it even is a *piece of cake* haha. this “recipe” (more like preparation) only requires 4 ingredients, and its definitely a party show-stopper

the key to the japanese fruit sando is definitely the shokupan, a milky, soft white sandwich bread that perfectly complements the whipped creamy filling and the freshness of the strawberries. i encourage you to venture out to a japanese/asian grocery store in search of this bread.

ingredients 材料

2 slices japanese white bread (shokupan)

5 strawberries (equally sized)

1/2 cup (~120 ml) heavy whipping cream

1 tbsp granulated sugar

directions 作り方

  1. cut off the “ears” of the shokupan slices
  2. in a large bowl, add sugar to the heavy cream and whip until stiff peaks
  3. layer whipped cream down on one slice of shokupan
  4. place 5 strawberries on the cream, aligned on each diagonal (see video below)
  5. top with more cream and place second shokupan slice
  6. take a spatula and fill the empty gaps with cream
  7. wrap in saran wrap and rest in the refrigerator for at least 2-3 hours
  8. unwrap the sandwich, wet a large knife with boiling hot water and slice diagonally! viola!
